Christmas Day in April!

Mom was born in Mount Street Birmingham on 25th April 1928. She used to like to make it easier for my dad to remember by telling him to think of "Christmas Day in April"! And that's how I remember it too. Over the years we had some fun birthdays - surprise trips to "see a show" - mom loved musicals. I'd wrack my brain to think of things to buy her - practical stuff like a microwave to fun stuff like a cuddly meerkat. And I'd travel from London or Bristol to see her. I well remember her 60th! I'd driven up from London with pressies in the car, keen to spend the day with her, and all she wanted to do was dash into town to get her OAP free bus pass - that was the highlight of her 60th - something for free! Typical Doris! But she loved that bus pass and made the most of it for the next couple of decades. She always loved whatever I bought her and the pressies and cards from family and friends. When she was young she had nothing so she always cherished everything. Including the wrapping paper and every single card - she never threw them away! Believe me, I've seen all those cards these last few months! So, tomorrow is the first 25th April without her. It will be so strange. I can only think of the good times and remember those happy birthdays through the years. I just hope the smiles win out over the tears. Love you mom xx
